First off the new Streaks are lighter and more flexible

Incredible new running shoes recently released from Pearl Izumi are ready for action. I got my hands on a couple pairs of the Streak II’s  recently and can honestly say that they are the best running shoe I have ever run in. That is a big statement, but it’s how I feel. I have been running in Pearl shoes for the last several seasons (Asics and Brooks before that) and  they have been good. My favorite Pearl shoe over the last few seasons has been the Peak XC trail shoe. The new Streak II’s blow them out of the water!

    The new Streak II

First off the new Streaks are lighter and more flexible. Better yet they have superior cushioning for such a light shoe. They almost seem to propel you forward with each step. The relatively low heel to forefoot drop keeps them feeling like a racing flat should, low to the ground and agile. The lack of excessive support from built in gimmicks make the shoes feel like they are simply part of your foot. When they arrived, I pulled these shoes out of the box and headed out for a run. I ended up running 16 miles in them on their maiden voyage. That wasn’t the intended plan, but they just felt so good, I kept on running! I have also done a few sock-less runs in them and they are good to go sans socks for an even sleeker tri-specific feel.

The new isoTransition

I haven’t had a chance to try the new triathlon-specific version called the isoTransition yet. I have a couple pairs coming as soon as they are available. They are built on the same last and outsole as the Streak II but with a more “tri-ready” upper; including a built in tongue, elastic laces and heel pull strap, all features to make them quick to get on and comfy for race day. My only wish was that the men’s version came in blue like the womens so they would match my outfit better, but hey, I can’t complain. You seriously need to try these shoes. These are nothing like Pearl shoes of old. Completely re-designed, re-engineered and can be put up against any distance flat on the market. No foolin!

Prototype Peak II
Rumor has it that a new Peak XC is on the horizon as well (I haven’t seen it yet, but have this image). I’m stoked about that one! Give me a bit more tread for the trail on a similar platform as the new Streak and we may have the perfect XTERRA shoe? I think it’s possible.  I’m hoping to have my hands on a pair by early May. I also heard it may come in blue!
